Gold flow can be greatly slowed down and effectively filtered using the correct type of screen.
 
This PVC based mesh is easy to glue and will work within most gold filter applications. It actually difuses the water exiting it.
 
This is not ordinary screening material. It has a slightly more open weave and is quite strong.
